Photoidentities
So about four years ago I needed a new site and went with a photoidentities site and so far have been happy with it..............
Until now!!
Well their site got hacked about 3 months ago and I am no longer able to ftp stuff to my site like the very important "link exchange update" on my resource page.
So they have been doing it for me with just a e-mail to them... until this month when I sent my usual request to update
ME
Hi Vera I have another update for my Resources on my front page
Can you delete the old and copy and past the new.
Thank you
Michael with www.capturedintimephotography.com
p.s. is there some way I can do this myself as It happens once a month?
Them
We have done this now.
Unfortunately it cannot be done by you as we do not provide access to the root directory (due t previous system breaches by users).
We have been doing the updates for you thus far as a courtesy, however going forward there will be a nominal charge of $15 per update.

Re: Photoidentities
Wow, you are not allowed to be in control of your own domain and they want money to "service" it? BULLSHIT! change provider, and if you're forced to be on their sever for the website, then go buy a new template somewhere that you are allowed to host yourself.

Re: Photoidentities
After sending them a e-mail basically saying I always spoke highly of them until now and thanks for nothing.
I got this back
Now I have one question if someone can help.Michael,
Sorry to hear that you feel this way.
Please note that at the time of sale there was no mention by you of any need to upload/update hyperlinks.
We did this as a one time courtesy, and since then you have been asking us to do this for you. Your request to do this yourself cannot be granted due to security restrictions we have always had in place on our servers. This is for the protection of ALL our clients.
Given this exercise is becoming a regular fixture, it is only fair we charge a nominal fee for this service. Being in business yourself, it should not be too difficult to understand that we cannot offer free services to our clients OR we will no longer be in business.
One thing we can suggest is an uploads area to which we can grant you secure FTP access where you can store the link file. It would be located at http://xxx. You could then update the html file yourself as long as you have an html editor or text editor.
Let me know if this will work.
Is this something I can do easily and if so can someone explain how I would have to go about doing this? I'm confused I have FTP and know how to use it.
Isn't this what I have been asking from them?
Would I just be able to copy and past to update my exchange.

Re: Photoidentities
Yeah, just make sure you have a link that links to that file that you'll store in that sub folder on the ftp.

Re: Photoidentities
Michael,
I'm no web guru or anything, but I think you should be able to copy and paste the code. I think it will work just like when you upload images with your ftp application.Jeff Preston

Re: Photoidentities
Text edit should be just fine, I think Gino gives you the whole html code, so you could just copy and paste the code and save it with the same name all the time.
If you want to be moe fancy with the coding, then yeah, you might want something more like a WYSIWYG html editor./Petra Hall
